When choosing mouthwash, many people focus mainly on whether it contains alcohol. This is relevant, but it should not be the only criterion.
Why do some mouthwashes contain alcohol?
Alcohol can perform particular technical functions in a formula. At the same time, strong burning or a dry sensation can make such a product less comfortable for some people.
When may an alcohol-free option be more comfortable?
People who tend to have a dry mouth or are sensitive to strong rinses often prefer gentler formulas. If you have a specific health concern, discuss the choice with a dentist.
Does alcohol-free mean less effective?
You cannot assess a mouthwash by one ingredient alone. The complete formula, the product’s intended purpose and the way it is used all matter.
