During orthodontic treatment with aligners, many people still want to reduce stains from coffee or tea. However, toothpaste described as whitening does not automatically change the natural colour of teeth, and wearing aligners is not a reason to use it more aggressively.
What can whitening toothpaste do?
Depending on the formula, it may help remove some surface stains. This is not the same as professional whitening carried out under a dentist's supervision.
Be alert to sensitivity
If sensitivity, pain or gum irritation develops during treatment, discuss your choice of toothpaste with your dentist or orthodontist.
Proper hygiene comes first
Regularly cleaning the teeth and interdental spaces, together with correct aligner care, matters more than increasing how often you use a whitening product.
