Fresh breath usually depends not on one product, but on doing several simple things regularly. A seven-day plan helps organise your hygiene and check whether the problem improves when daily habits are corrected.
Rules for every day
- brush your teeth morning and evening,
- clean between the teeth once a day,
- clean your tongue gently,
- drink water regularly,
- do not mask odour only with mints,
- watch for bleeding, pain and dryness.
Day 1: your starting point
Assess your routine and note when the odour is most noticeable: in the morning, after coffee, after a meal or throughout the day. Read our guide to the most common causes.
Day 2: spaces between the teeth
Focus on your flossing technique. Do not snap the floss forcefully into the gum. Follow a gentle method recommended by your dentist.
Day 3: the tongue
Add gentle cleaning of the back of the tongue. Do not try to remove all of the surface's natural colour. Use a gentle tongue-cleaning technique.
Day 4: hydration
Keep water close and notice whether your mouth becomes dry while working, training or sleeping. Persistent dryness should be discussed with a dentist or doctor.
Day 5: coffee and meals
Rinse your mouth with water after coffee and food. Note which products change your breath most strongly.
Day 6: an additional ritual
If you wish, you can try oil pulling as an addition before brushing. Do not swallow the oil and spit it into a bin. Read the oil-pulling guidance or see Elixio coconut oil for mouth rinsing.
Day 7: assess the result
Check whether the odour appears less often, whether the tongue has less coating and whether the mouth feels better hydrated. No improvement does not mean that you need to buy a stronger product. It may indicate that a dental examination is needed.
When should you stop the at-home test?
Do not wait seven days if you develop severe pain, swelling, pus, difficulty swallowing, fever or a sudden marked change in the condition of your mouth.
FAQ
Should the problem disappear after seven days?
If the main source was neglected areas of hygiene, an improvement may be noticeable. Other causes require professional assessment.
Can the plan be continued for longer?
Yes. Brushing, interdental cleaning, tongue cleaning and hydration should remain permanent habits.
