How to Brush with Activated Charcoal Toothpaste

Jul 25, 2026Elixio

Brushing technique matters more than pressure. Activated charcoal toothpaste should not be treated like a scrubbing powder. Use it according to the purpose and directions of the complete formula.

Step-by-step method

  1. Check the amount and frequency on the packaging.
  2. Use a soft or otherwise suitable toothbrush.
  3. Position it at the gumline without pressing hard.
  4. Clean outer, inner and chewing surfaces in sequence.
  5. Brush for around two minutes or as individually advised.
  6. Spit out and follow the rinsing directions.
  7. Rinse the brush and clean any splashes.

What should you avoid?

  • Forceful horizontal scrubbing near the gums.
  • Using a very large amount.
  • Brushing longer to chase a faster result.
  • Combining it with baking soda, lemon or abrasive powder.
  • Skipping interdental cleaning.

Manual or electric toothbrush?

Both can work with correct technique. With an electric brush, avoid extra scrubbing and use a pressure sensor if available. Switch it on only once the head is inside the mouth to limit splashing.

How can you judge pressure?

Bristles should touch the tooth without splaying strongly. Bleeding gums are not a reason to brush harder; persistent bleeding needs assessment.

Does toothpaste replace flossing?

No. Toothbrushes do not reach every contact surface. Use floss, interdental brushes or another suitable method.
